New York Jets fire general manager Mike Maccagnan after four seasons; Adam Gase to serve as interim GM  1 Week ago

After four years on the job, the New York Jets fired general manager Mike Maccagnan on Wednesday morning.

Team chairman and CEO Christopher Johnson made the announcement.

"I came to the decision to make a change after much thought and a careful assessment of what would be in the best long-term interests of the New York Jets," Johnson said in a statement.

The search for Maccagnan's replacement will begin immediately, and new head coach Adam Gase, who clashed with Maccagnan according to published reports, will serve as GM in an interim capacity.

The Jets never reached postseason under Maccagnan and last appeared in the playoffs in 2010.

Maccagnan leaves after making some compelling additions to the roster. Defensive lineman Quinnen Williams, taken third overall in last month's draft, is expected to make an immediate impact, while third-round edge rusher Jachai Polite could be a gem.

In free agency, Maccagnan signed established players like running back Le'Veon Bell, linebacker C.J. Mosley and slot receiver Jamison Crowder.

"It kind of pisses me off a little bit, because we have discussions on everything," Gase said recently while denying the apparent rift with Maccagnan, but also expressing frustration with the free agent process.

"It was just about, can we get the guys we’re talking about getting. You just never know because there’s 31 other teams competing against you, you don’t really know who’s telling the truth, what agents are BSing you, which ones are shooting you straight. Free agency’s a nightmare procedure."
